Half day tour: Vienna

Back in 2012 I had the chance to make a escape and visit some of my friends, visits that I hope I start doing again this year that I’m back in Europe. Austria was my easter holiday travel and chance to practice some weekend travel routes, as that was my job at the moment.
In 4 days my plan was to visit Vienna and stay 2 days in Salzburg and surroundings. Today’s post is about that half day tour in Vienna.
After landing in Vienna thursday afternoon, he picked me up at the airport, left me at the hotel and then we met later again for some sightseeing.
For starters, we visited Schönbrunn palace, former imperial summer residence of the Habsburg royalty, for more than 300 years.

The Gloriette, located on the top of the hill of the back gardens, is a perfect location for a panoramic view of the city, and a good walk to get there too.

After the rush visit to Schönbrunn palace we headed back to city center, to the old district of the town. I was unexperienced on timings and then it hit me, the idea that I keep since then in all my travels. Ask the locals. Instead of making up routes and plans, stressing myself for not being able to visit everything, I just relaxed and let my local friend be my guide. So we did, and then, no plan was the best plan.
Back to the city center for a night tour and asked my friend Gregor for food recommendations.

Best Hot Dogs in town!

A stroll around the city, heading for our next tourist spot and drinks of the night. This way, I saw more of Vienna’s top spots without noticing.

Palais Auersperg

Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral), an astonishing gothic construction, and the most important religious building in Vienna, is one of the most recognizable tourist spots in Vienna.

Finally we end up in a bar catching up to date and having good laughs remembering the good old times in Finland, where we met as exchange students.

Happy noodles for a happy tour
