Walk around Gion, Kyoto traditional geisha district

Kyoto most famous district, located between Yasaka Shrine and the Kamo River. Walk around Gion and wander with traditional shops, restaurants and teahouses, where Geisha and their apprentices, named Maiko, entertain the visitors and clients with traditional music and performances, whilst enjoying japanese haute cousine. Head to the main street Hanami-koji and enjoy the streets of Gion.

One day in Kyoto

Many times I’ve been asked for things to do in Kyoto limited to one day visit. It’s difficult to narrow it all the amazing things you can visit or do in Kyoto. Usually my top recommendations are Kiyomizudera, Kinkakuji shrine and Gion district on a tight schedule, but here’s a list of the main spots to visit in Kyoto. With good planning and timing you can be able to visit many places in one day in the old capital.

Yasaka shrine and Gion – Kyoto

While visiting Kyoto, there is a double visit that many tourists don’t know till they find themselves in the heart of the city.
Some are attracted by Yasaka shrine, some others by Gion district, known for being the Geisha district in Kyoto. The truth is, both are near to each other, only separated by a couple of streets, so visiting both sites should be a must visit if you are walking across Yasaka shrine or Gion.

Yasaka shrine, founded over a thousand years ago, is also known as Gion shrine. Therefore, the connection and proximity to the actual Gion district.
Known for its summer festival, the Gion Matsuri, celebrated in July, dating back for over a thousand years.
